Cikananga II

I started to walk around  and look for the Black-Winged starling here in the area. Means, I hike in between the rice paddies all day long.

a little sunshelter for the workers on the fields

Well, those guys are out there aswell. Birdcatcher in action. With a marketprice of more than a month pay for the Black-Winged starling there's little to wonder why I can't find him (yet).

Here something for the spider-lovers in between you

Ricefields and improvised bridges as far as you can see.

I just had to make a shot of this old lady, hehe

Cikananga I

The next two month i'm going to be working with the Cikananga Conservation Breeding Center. More information about this organisation you can find at www.cikanangawildlifecenter.com. I'm going to part of the project to reintroduce the critically endangered Black-Winged Starling (Sturnus melanopterus) into the wild. The first goal for me is going to be to find the released birds from last year in the area. If they haven't died or been caught to sell them we will start a new release. Then I'm going to collect data for a while after the release to monitor the success of the release.

Because I'm supposed to find the birds in the nature, I need to get to know them first. Learn their singing and what they are up to. And how could you do this better than cleaning their cages, hehe? I don't want to just sit around and listen to the birds so I helped the keepers to clean the cages of the breeding program.

Indonesia XXI

Back in Indonesia. No perfect waves, but nobody there

Well, almost nobody...

The indonesian language can be a funny one. Directly translated: throw away big water 5.000 Rp, throw away small water 2.000Rp.

More deserted Right- and Lefthanders

Here again (not again, booring!) a few pics from way out there and far away from all tourists. Stayed with a family in the area because the next hotel was a one hour drive away. Well, and this happens aswell, beautiful beach and the waves are to small:

And this, after i drove in the truest sense of the word cross-country. Tried for 2 hours to get to the beach. On the next picture you can see what I had to drive through (foto: Google). Cornfields as far as you can see and no streets. Just little tracks. And most of them were dead-ends. Then at one point I got sick of it and drove across the field. The way back was easier, hehe.

So close but so far. Top waves but where is the way?

To reach this spot I had to climb down the cliffs. One hand on the rock, one carries the surfboard.

Alternative activity possibilities in the bouldercave

Well and as an old Dreisamsurfer (river through Freiburg) one notices the Waimeaesque outflow of the lagoon. Naturally I had to try it. To the exitement amusement of the fishers on the beach. Greetings to Krabbelgruppe Abteilung München. You would have been able to rip more than me.

Indonesia XIX

On the ferry: 10 motorbikes, 2 cars and about 100 million bananas...

...and 20 horses. It took about 8 hours to load all the bananas while I was waaaaaaaaiting, because they all entered one by one. At least in the end they drove in the rest on top of the trucks
